Genetic Factor Analysis for Twins and Non-Twins
--An Application to Yatabe-Guilford Personality Inventory Data--
"The Upper and Lower Secondary School Attached to the Faculty of Education of the
University of Tokyo"(what a long name!) has been collecting twins within Tokyo area for various human genetic research since the 1950s. The present study is an application of a genetic factor analysis to the personality inventory data from 187 monozygotic twins and 43 dizygotic twins
attended the school during 1977 to 1994, along with the data from 1309 non-twins. The analysis
revealed a greater genetic contribution to the extroversion factor but a much smaller
contribution to the adaptability factor in the inventory, that is 49.8% and 2.5%, respectively.
A Causal Model for Relationship between Aptitude and Adjustment to Courses in the University.
The National Center for University Entrance Examinations, an ETS equivalent in Japan, conducted a research project in 1995-96 investigating the relationship between aptitude and
adjustment to university, collecting data from 4,506 juniors and seniors in the Japanese
universities. The present study is a re-analysis of a part of the data, applying a covariance
structure analysis for a causal model. The major findings are as follows; (a)the ability to
express and think in another way lead to academic achievements, (b)self-regulation lead to
fitness of one's interest, and (c)such fitness lead to satisfaction with one's way of life.

Underlying Meanings in Some Kinetic Components of Japanese Sign Language.
Three experiments were carried out with 258 undergraduate subjects in total investigating the existence of underlying meanings of the Japanese Sign Language(JSL). In Exp.I, it was found that the meanings of JSL could be guessed significantly more than a chance level by 56 subjects who were absolutely novice at it. In Exp.II, a multivariate analysis(HAYASHI I) revealed a
relationship between some kinetic components of JSL and semantic impressions rated in SD scales by 98 undergraduates. Finally the relationship was confirmed by an additional experiment with
104 subjects(Exp.III), in which the results of Exp.II were reproduced with some newly composed kinetics, "an artificial JSL".
